Max is a member of New Profit’s portfolio investment team and serves as a “Deal Partner” providing strategic advising and support to individual portfolio organizations.
Prior to New Profit, Max worked in education non-profits for over 15 years, most recently as Executive Director of iMentor NYC (a former New Profit grantee), which provides mentors to 4,000 NYC public high school students, and before that as CFO of Achievement First (another former New Profit grantee), which serves over 12,000 K-12 students in 32 charter schools in New York, Connecticut, and Rhode Island.
Max’s passion for education and social justice sprung from his experience as a public middle school math teacher in Hayward, California at the beginning of his career. In the intervening years, Max was also a consultant at McKinsey and Company, a serial entrepreneur and the head of quality control at Polaner Preserves, the company started by his great-grandfather, Max.
Max has a Master in Public Policy degree from the Harvard Kennedy School, an MBA from Harvard Business School, a BA in Philosophy from Yale and his secondary teaching credential from San Francisco State.
