Kumar is a passionate champion of education reform and started his career working on behalf of parents and children as an education lawyer and advocate. Kumar led the Obama Administration’s efforts to bolster federal STEM education initiatives, serving for nearly 8 years in the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP). He then led partnerships at Schmidt Futures, working with Eric Schmidt to design and launch moonshot initiatives in education while building ongoing multi-donor and multi-sector collaboratives. Kumar is now president of Renaissance Philanthropy, a nonprofit that surfaces breakthrough ideas and incubates ambitious initiatives. He received a bachelor’s degree from Dartmouth College and a law degree from Yale Law School.
